Port de Pollensa is a coast resort so it has many options related to things to do at the sea. The Bay of Pollensa is ideal for boat trips as it is a secluded and small place with many attractive places and coves where to stop to swim and do snorkelling.
There are plenty of things to do in Puerto Pollensa without getting wet though too! Here are our top 11 things to do in Puerto Pollensa on your holidays:
Port de Pollensa is situated about 8 kilometers far away from Pollensa old town, a place that deserves a visit. In Pollensa old town there are many things to do and to visit: to walk up the 365 Calvari steps to the chapel at the top from where you will have some of the best Mediterranean panoramic views imaginable; stroll around Pollensa's main square with charming boutique shops, gift shops, cafes and restaurants; visit the municipal museum for a touch of culture and history.
Don’t forget every Sunday, Pollensa has a local market from 9:00 until 14:00. You can easily reach Pollensa from the Port by local public bus or by taxi.
Although Port de Pollensa is not famous for its nightlife it is a great place to enjoy yourself after dark. Here are some of our recommendations for places to go when the sun goes down and sometimes leave when the sun comes back again: the main square at the port, the pine walk or one of the chill out bars by the beach. If you are looking for a great night out in the Party resort of Magalluf, an option is to join the Magalluf Party bus that runs every Wednesday leaving the Alcudia resort at around 20:00 and getting back at around 06:00.
Port de Pollensa has a wide offering of restaurants and places to eat out. Being a touristic resort, there is always something for everybody, from local cuisine to international cuisine or fast food. If you are on holiday, we recommend you to try the mallorcan cuisine, and a place we really like is Celler La Parra close to the Eroski supermarket. The Stay Restaurant in the harbour has been offering great-value, great-quality set menus for years. Or for something a bit spicier, look out for the Thai restaurant or the Himalayan Indian restaurant.
In Mallorca there are only three water parks, and one of them is situated in the neighbour resort of Port de Alcudia. It is the Hidropark, and despite being the smallest water park in Mallorca, it offers a great variety of water slides, a wave pool and many areas for children. You can get there very easily by public bus, and then a 5 minutes walk. Or you could jump in a taxi to make life easier.
Other water parks in Mallorca are situated in the south area of the island, and these are the Aqualand Arenal (the biggest water park with some of the best water slides) and the Western Water Park (a theme style water park with lots of water slides and a great choice to spend a day in the water). To both of them, we organise bus tours that include pick up at the hotels in Port de Pollensa and the entrance to the water park.
From Port de Pollensa, we have different excursions and tours to take you to the most visited attractions and tourist places in Mallorca. Some examples of the tours we offer are: the tour to the Caves of Drach, the Island tour, a bus to Palma, a visit to Formentor area with open top bus and ferry… On this page, you can find above all the suggestions, and by clicking on the photo, you have more details, photos, reviews, videos…
A very interesting destination close to Port de Pollensa is Formentor and you can get there by ferry or on a combined tour offering boat and open top bus. If you want to go to the lighthouse since the 2018 summer season the traffic is restricted, and you need to take the shuttle bus.
Another place that deserves a visit is Alcudia old town. In Alcudia old town there are many things to do and to visit: the old walls, Alcudia church, the Roman city of Pollentia, the town hall… Don’t forget every Tuesday and Sunday, Alcudia has a local market from 9 until 14:00. You can easily reach Alcudia from the Port of Pollensa by local public bus.
On our website we offer the Robinson Boat and Catamaran, both are excellent options for a fun day out at sea, and we get great reviews from clients that join this tour. Both the Robinson Boat and the Robinson Catamaran sail from the harbour at Puerto Pollensa for a fun-packed day of swimming, snorkelling, fishing and sunbathing. lunch is included onboard and there is the opportunity to visit Formentor Beach.
If you want to do something more exclusive, we have a mallorcan typical boat with limited places to 12 passengers, including lunch, drinks all day and water activities such as snorkeling, fishing, kayaking or stand paddle.
If you are looking for something different to do from Port de Pollensa, we recommend you a dolphin-watching trip. This trip is been very popular during the last season, and it combines the sunrise and dolphin spotting, so you can see dolphins swimming in wild in the waters of the Bay of Pollensa. The trip takes place aboard the Robinson Catamaran and they depart at dawn just in time to see the first rays of the sunrise, adding even more magic to the experience.
Puerto Pollensa Beach is one of the best in the Mediterranean, but we also find there in the same bay, Formentor beach which is one of the most popular and famous beaches in Mallorca. You can even see one from the other!
The beach at Puerto Pollensa is not the biggest on the island but it is certainly not the smallest either. The white sand seems to go on forever all the way from Puerto Pollensa's harbour round to the entrance of Alcudia. The warm sea is shallow and ideal for swimming for families with children. For children there is a water play area, which is like a climbing frame with slides and other activities.
At the beach there are sun beds for hire along with parasols, there are showers and facilities, beach bars, lifeguard service and there are lots of shops and restaurants nearby where you can get snacks, drinks and ice cream to enjoy at the beach.
The Pine Walk is the famous promenade at the end of the beach at Puerto Pollensa just after the harbour. Lined with pine trees that give the name to the pedestrianised walkway, it is a pleasant and shady area for a stroll in Puerto Pollensa. The Pine Walk is lined with bustling restaurants and ice cream parlours and some of the oldest and most charming hotels in the resort. You haven't been to Puerto Pollensa until you have strolled down the Pine Walk, stopping off for a refreshing ice cream or a beer along the way. All the eateries have excellent views of the bay and the mountains at the far end.
Puerto Pollensa is home to some great natural areas. Just a stone's throw from the busy resort are the peaceful areas of La Gola, close to the centre of Puerto Pollensa, and the Albufereta wetland at the far end of the bay going towards Alcudia. Both places are sanctuaries for birds and wildlife and are visitable as long as you stick to the paths and respect nature. The smaller of the two is the La Gola area and you can walk around a series of paths in just 40 minutes including time to stop and read the information about trees, plants and wildlife. The Albufereta is a protected area and is considered part of the Albufera Natural Park (the main park is in Playa de Muro) where migrating birds drop in normally in autumn and spring and where flamingos stay for the whole winter. There are paths to follow and you can climb the stairs to the top of the wooden observation structures where you have a great view of this swamp land and the areas beyond.
Formentor is a great place to visit from Puerto Pollensa, as it is right there on the same bay. People come from all over the island to visit Formentor and for those staying in Puerto Pollensa it is right on their doorstep.
The easiest way to visit Formentor during the daytime is to use the ferry service from Port de Pollensa to Formentor, with many daily departures. You can buy your return ticket on this website and you can leave and return on whichever ferry you want, meaning you can spend a few hours on the exquisite Formentor Beach or the whole day. You can drive to Formentor if you have a car, but in summertime the road is closed for conservation reasons between 10am and 7pm, so don't hire a car just on the strength of driving to Formentor.
The best time to visit Formentor is in the evening time, as the sunset from the Formentor Lighthouse is magnificent. We have a small-group tour that you can take which will take you to the viewpoint and the lighthouse at sunset.
If you like walking, Port de Pollensa has some great options . The tourist information office has a very good leaflet with different walks to different destinations and different levels.
The walk to Cala Boquer from Puerto Pollensa follows a trail walk through a valley in the Tramuntana Mountains to the rocky beach at Cala de Boquer and starts at the roundabout near the Boquer Urbanizacion. The route is easy to follow, save the first part, which goes through some properties before reaching the main trail. It is also a relatively easy walk, being just 6.5km round trip and with only a small ascent/descent of 150m along the way. Along the way through the valley towards the Cala Boquer cove you can see an old lime kiln, the Font Sementer and ruins of a Talayotic village. Once at the rocky beach, enjoy a well-deserved refreshing swim before starting the walk back.
Some other examples of good walks in Port de Pollensa are: Cala San Vicente, the Puig de Maria in Pollensa, walks in Formentor peninsula or the walk to the Lluc monastery.
